Does Ontario Complain too much...

about it's place in Canada - and the unfair treatment from the feds..
It seems like every week I hear the Premier of Ontario moan and groan about how much the feds owe them.
Well for those of us who live outside the center of CANADA - Ontario - it looks quite different.
You own the majority of Canada because you have Ottawa and all the bells and whistles that go with that. The majority of Crown Corp headquarters - the majority of federal jobs - the centre's of excellence - the national museums - the politico's and the businesses that support them - and what's not there is in Toronto - Stock Market - Banks - Head Offices of the largest Corporations.
So we subsidize you....

You should look outside your box and see what the rest of us have to look at every time we read a national paper or watch the national news...The bias is naturally for you.
Play fair - and stop complaining - after all how much more loved can you feel - when - during every federal election - they cosy up to you.

Yes, Ontario complains too much.

I moved from Quebec to get away from that kind of crap...

I moved to Alberta in 1978 from Ottawa. Right away, I hear about "western alienation", and thirty years later, I still think it's a crock.

The notion that roughly ten percent of the country's population should have the same influence as 40 percent is fundamentally anti-democratic.

The fact that Alberta is currently prosperous is actually irrelevant; that's akin to saying people who make over $100 K should have more influence than those who make less than $30 K. The "fact" is that they do, partially due to social connections, partially due to the fact that those struggling to survive don't have the time and money to commit to political activities. But this "fact" does not come close to any kind of democratic ideal, does it?

Anyway, to bring this to the topic at hand, Ontario and/or Quebec certainly do "complain", but do so to further the interests of their populations (and elites, and industry, etcetera).

Because of the reality that both provinces comprise over 60 percent of the country's population, they are listened to. That's just political realism. It would be nice if the concerns of the out-lying areas were considered more frequently, but that's not likely to happen unless we get a whole lot more people in the Western Provinces...and isn't it funny, but many of the same people who bitch about "Central" Canada are also opposed to immigration?
